Doughty Valley Steam Power Show in Ohio Amish Country

Charm, Ohio, has been host to the Doughty Valley Steam and Power Show since 2000, which showcases the rich history of steam-powered engines, saw mills, and other farm equipment. Amish Country visitors and guests staying at The Barn Inn Bed and Breakfast in Millersburg, are encouraged to add this one-of-a-kind show to their lists during their visit to Ohio's Amish Country.

In 1698, Thomas Savery discovered the power of steam and patented his first steam engine: an invention that marked the first form of power invented by humans. The fascinating history of steam engines is brought to the future in picturesque Charm, this year during July 24-26, 2014.

Steam engines, sawmills, and even tractors will arrive late Wednesday evening to begin to set up for three days of steam power. These powerful machines show off their function, even holding a "Spark Shower" on Friday and competing in a tug-of-war.

Food will be available throughout the event from a local charity organization. The admission price is $4 per day, and parking is free. The event will be held next to Guggisberg cheese on County Road 557 in Charm.

Rooms fill up during periods of special events.  For a special experience, consider a stay at the award-winning Barn Inn Bed and Breakfast; or for a group of friends or family, consider our group accommodations at Apple Hill.

Millersburg Antiques in the Alley offers Unique Shopping on Mother's Day Weekend

Held every spring and fall in historic downtown Millersburg, Antiques in the Alley returns for its 10th year on Saturday, May 10. Guests at The Barn Inn Bed and Breakfast are invited to browse this outdoor shopping event as part of their visit to Ohio's Amish country.

Set in the alleys and main streets of downtown Millersburg, Antiques in the Alley will host more than 50 antique vendors and their wares this Saturday, from 9am to 5pm, rain or shine. This event, which is akin to a festival, is opportunely right before Mother's Day, giving visitors a chance to let Mom shop for herself, or a great place to pick something up for her.

Antiques in the Alley has served as a great transition from Spring to the beginning of tourism season in Amish Country. In the past, the event was focused more on antique vendors only, but has since expanded to businesses and individuals from all over Ohio bringing a variety of merchandise to the table, such as refurbished furniture, glassware, metal artwork, flowers, folk art, and much more.

Two food vendors will also be present in the alleys alongside other local businesses and restaurants, many of which will be offering sidewalk sales and discounts. For continued entertainment after the vendors are closed, Historic Downtown Millersburg will be hosting its second Saturday Movie on Courthouse Square, showing "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" on a large screen on the lawn.

Fore more information about Antiques in the Alley, visitors can go to Historic Downtown Millersburg or Starlight Antiques.
