60th Annual Swiss Festival in Sugarcreek Ohio

September 28 and 29, 2012 marks the 60th year of Sugarcreek's annual Swiss Festival. Sugarcreek, known as the "Little Switzerland" of Ohio, annually hosts this event which provides a true Swiss culture experience.

Festivities begin Wednesday, September 26th, with food, rides, and other events taking place. Beginning on Thursday, September 27th at 9 p.m. will be the crowning of the Swiss Festival Queen and Grand Champion Cheese Maker at the Midway Pavilion.




Main Street in Sugarcreek, Ohio


On Friday at 2 p.m. the Kiddie Parade will make its way down Main Street. Come watch all of the costumes, pets, creativity and fun displayed here. There will also be the Steintossen at 7:30 p.m.  (Steintossen means stone throwing). This event is historic to the Alps, where men and women see how far they can throw these heavy stones.

On Saturday, the Steintossen continues at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. There will be a Yodeling Contest and a Swiss Costume Contest in the morning at 11:30 a.m. "Le Grande Parade" is a don't-miss event and will begin on Main Street at 2 p.m.

Musical entertainment will be provided all weekend with a wide spectrum of genres. The fire station will also be providing wine and cheese samples from the local artisans. This festival is sure to be fun for all ages!

The Barn Inn Bed and Breakfast is 15 miles west of Sugarcreek, near Berlin and Millersburg, and has rooms available for Friday and Saturday evening. Come enjoy breakfast in the morning and then make your way through Amish Country to this unique festival.
